Supports
the Body’s Immune System*
HOW PATIENTS MAY BENEFIT
- Supports respiratory and digestive systems.*
- Favorably modulates prostaglandin formation.*
PRODUCT DISCUSSION
PhysioLogics PTE Support™ is a scientifically-formulated supplement to support
digestion and absorption of proteins, as well as provide the body with
immune-modulating and respiratory support.* Each serving of PhysioLogics PTE
Support™ is standardized to provide 1200 Gelatin Digesting Units from 500 mg
of Bromelain (derived from pineapple) to ensure protein-digesting quality.*
Ingredients can be absorbed into the bloodstream, providing more than just
digestive support.* PTE Support™ can be used by clients who may be increasing
protein intake and need extra digestive support, or who need support of the
sinus and respiratory systems for ear, nose and throat health.*
STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION
Bromelain is a general name for a family of proteolytic enzymes obtained from
pineapple (Ananas comosus). Proteolytic enzymes help break down dietary proteins
in the digestive tract, as well as unwanted protein compounds in the
bloodstream. Bromelain’s primary component is a sulfhydryl proteolytic fraction,
but bromelain also contains peroxidase, acid phosphatase, protease inhibitors,
and organic calcium.
Bromelain serves to modulate the coagulation
system by several methods. It decreases the production of Prekallikein, thereby
decreasing the production of High Molecular Weight Kinin (HMWK), and
subsequently Bradykinin. It decreases the production of Factor X, prothrombin
(II), and activates the conversion of plasminogen to plasmin. Bromelain has also
been shown to modulate the synthesis of thromboxanes and prostacyclins.
Serratiopeptidase (also known as serrapeptase) is
a proteolytic enzyme that can be absorbed into the blood to provide its
beneficial effects. It is found in nature as the enzyme produced by silkworms to
digest their cocoons. The capacity of serratiopeptidase to dissolve protein
selectively without affecting normal function makes it a great agent for a broad
spectrum of health benefits. This can be important when the body has undergone
physical stress, by helping to reduce unwanted protein compounds that can
otherwise slow recovery.*
Serratiopeptidase enzyme supports the sinus and
respiratory systems to promote ear, nose and throat health.* It seems to work by
amending the elasticity and viscosity of naturally produced mucus, without
causing mucus depletion. Serratiopeptidase has been used in Europe and Japan for
over 25 years for its health benefits.*
Bromelain and Serratiopeptides are proteolytic
enzymes that effect cellular immune functions and enhance healthy cell growth.*
CLINICAL EVIDENCE
- In an open label trial, 77 subjects were given
either 200 mg or 400 mg of Bromelain every day for three months. Results
found that the group receiving 400 mg Bromelain had improved knee joint
comfort and function compared to the 200 mg group. Bromelain’s positive
effect on the immune response most likely contributed to the improved
benefits. PTE Support provides 500 mg Bromelain per serving. (Walker, 2002)
- Researchers from the University of Naples in
Italy conducted a multicenter, randomized, double blind study to determine
the effects of 30 mg of Serratiopeptidase on 193 subjects. Statistical
analysis revealed significant support of respiratory health in subjects
given Serratiopeptidase as compared to the placebo. (Mazzone, 1990)
- In an open labeled trial researchers examined
29 subjects who received either 30 mg/day of serrapeptase or a placebo.
After 4 weeks, the group receiving serrapeptase experienced a significant
improvement in respiratory function. There was no significant change in the
control group. This study indicates that serrapeptase supports respiratory
health. (Nakamura et al, 2003)
SUMMARY
Bromelain has been clinically used in a variety of applications for more than 35
years. It has positive effects on coagulation, the kinin system, cytokine, and
prostaglandin synthesis. Bromelain also supports digestion of dietary proteins
while supporting a healthy immune response throughout the body.*
Serratiopeptidase Enzyme supports the sinus and respiratory systems to promote
ear, nose and throat health.*
SUGGESTED DOSAGE
For adults, take one (1) to two (2) capsules three times daily on an empty
stomach (1 hour before or 3 hours after a meal) or follow the advice of your
healthcare professional.
