Sharing Thoughts:

Welcome new friends from Sweden and Norway.

1) Ayur Veda in Norway is not widely known yet, but I guess it is about to change. We also have a norvegian newsletter-group which distribute information, advice, experiences etc. I also know that a newly returned person, that has studied Ayur Veda abroad has come to open practice here in Oslo. Birgitte Blandhoel

2) Lennart Eriksson is in southern Sweden, 130 km from Malmo, gives courses, for personal use of Ayurveda as well as training therapist A friend of his has a Pancha-Karma treatment center, more north, 110 km from Stockholm.

3) Panchkarma treatment experience of our friend Birgitte Blandhoel somewhere in Europe.

I work in front of a computer thats why I almost got a strain injury and also my digestion was not so good. But the special massage and herbs, food, everything was a wonderful cleansing experience. Both my mind and body felt lighter, my strain injury went away. But the best was the good advices I got, things I can do to prevent and keep my balance. Especially sesame oil massage is a good thing for me. Because of high vata and pitta I took both massage, steambath, shirodhara and basti. Shirodhara was a wonderful thing for me, I have never experienced a physical method that so easily quiet down the mind.

4) I want to know of an ayurveda centre here in mexico city, anu information will be greatly appreciated. - "Ricardo Galan" galanrich@yahoo.com

5) Dear Prerak,

Ayulink is becoming better & better. Keep it up and thus serve the science. Many people, even out side India, keep talking about this site and claim they enjoy the contents. Recently some Americans and Europeans opined this in US during Monroe wall symposium in New Brunswick, NJ, USA. I felt happy. I wish you all the best and a success to Ayulink. Warm Rgds,

Dr Vijay Chauhan

Introduction of Ayurveda (New Series)

Hemanta Ritu (Winter Season) Shishira Ritu (Cold and Dewy Season)

Diet Sweet, sour and salt taste food can be taken. In this season the digestive activity becomes more powerful. Increased vata gets obstructed from spreading out due to cold atmosphere outside which can digest the tissues. More intake of sweet, sour and salt helps reducing the vata. Wine prepared from jaggery   (molasses) can be taken. Wheat/gramflour products, milk products, sugarcane products and corn/edible oils can be taken as a part of food.

Lifestyle

  • Massage with oil.
  • Ubvartan with fine paste/powder of kumkum (kesar).
  • Exercise (vyama).
  • Clothing-leather, silk and wool.
  • Exposure to sunlight and fire to keep yourself warm.

Vasanta Ritu (Spring Season)
In this season, increased kapha is liquified by the heat of sun which causes diminished agni (digestive activity) causing
diseases

Diet

  • Easily digestible food.
  • Barley, honey, roasted meat, mango juice can be taken as food.
  • Beverages such as asava (fermented infusion), arista (fermenteddecoction), sidhu (fermented sugarcane juice), honey mixed with water and water boiled with extracts of chandan (sandal wood).
  • Avoid hard to digest and cold food, sour, sweet and fatty food. Such food increase kapha causing dosha imbalance and hence genesis of disease.

Lifestyle

  • Physical exercise.
  • Dry massage.
  • Nasal medication can be taken.
  • After massage bath with karpura/chandan/kumkum.
  • Avoid sleeping during day time

Answer : Dear Friend,

My suggestions are;
1. Change life style in first place. Good Sleep is must , Ideal bed time is 1100 pm to 6.00 am
2. Meditation or pranayam will be of much for him.
3. Is the problem stress, tension or eye related ? consult eye specialist, if so.
4. excess use of computer may lead to such headaches and physical disturbances. avoid excess use of computer at a stretch.
5. Give him pure cow's ghee 20 ml everyday for 15 days. Ghee should be luke warm, can take with milk, tea or coffee or plain. Ghee must be consumed at the time of sunrise. Not after that. Inform me after 15 days. I would like to evaluate the symptoms again and suggest medicines after this basic treatments.

Best wishes,

Prerak

Philosophy of Anti–ageing, Ayurvedic concepts
(quotes from various scholars)

Scholars states ‘Which indicates life span is ‘Jivaniya’. Jivanaiya herbs and formulations are helpful for long life and anti-ageing process. Jivaniya synchronises exogenic and indogenic factors, for healthy and better life. Jivaniya are best promoters of ‘ojus’. Ojus is the supreme essence of all dhatus (tissue) and responsible for living mechanism. It holds ‘prana’ in the body. Great ayurveda scholar Maharshi Sushrut describes prana is having hold on agni, jal, and vayu - mahabhutas, and satva, rajas and tamas - psychological doshas in the body. The Jivaniyas herbs promotes agni. The word Agni represents all bio-chemical process in the body, which supports digestion and assimilation of food, gives nutrition to dhatus (tissues), detoxifies the body, cleans the channels, helps to keep healthy status of the body. Proper or balanced agni is must for living human being, to have diseases free life.’

The ageing process is reality of life.

  • Nature has programed us for degenration, but man has always tried to obtain longevity.
  • With the help of modern concepts and science, the age limit has increased for number of years, but still milestone to achieve for 100 years of healthy life (according to Indian clasical vedas) is far.
  • Ageing is a bio-physiological process, which affects body organs and    disturbs the vital functions and lowers ‘agni’ (The word Agni represents all bio-chemical process in the body, which supports digestion and assimilation of food, gives nutrition to dhatus (all bodily tissues), detoxifies the body, cleans the channels, helps to maintain healthy status of the body.)
  • Only looking for long life is not the aim of Ayurveda, but we are looking for healthy - long life. This can be possible only with ‘Urjaskar Chikitsa’.
  • To control aging process and to support quality of 'ayu' - life, with Ayurvedic principles is basic objective of Rasayana Chikitsa.
