Know some common herbs: Pippali & Basil

Piper longum, Linn. ( Pippali, Indian Long Pepper )

Pippali is a powerful stimulant for both the digestive and the respiratory systems and has been shown to have a rejuvenating effect, especially on lungs. Pippali increases fire element and plays an important role in aiding the thermogenic response, i.e. the release of metabolic heat energy.

This effect is the result of increased thyroid hormone level in the body and makes Pippali a typical Ayurvedic complementary component whose benefit is to increase the bio-availability and enhance absorption of the other active ingredients.

Ocimum Sativam (Basil, Tulsi)

Basil is considered to be best diaphoretic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, nervine tonic. It decreases water and air elements, while increases fire element.

Generally it is recommended for colds, cough, sinus congestion, headaches, arthritis, fevers, intestinal gas, mental dullness and depression. Antimicrobial activity of the basil, helps to fight against skin infections and wounds. It is best immuno booster.

The seeds are good tonic and rasayana. It improves all dhatus. Basil is known as chain breaker in reoccurant skin diseases.
