The Qualities of Cow's milk: Cow's milk has ten properties; it is sweet, cooling, soft, unctuous, thick, glossy, viscid, heavy, slow and clear. Possessing these qualities which are common with those of the vital essence, it is promotive of vital essence. Milk is said to be foremost among the vitalizers and rejuvenators. (Charak Samhita, Sutra Sthana, Chapter 27, Shloka : 217, 218)
Personal: The Experience of the Earth Quake You must be knowing about the great disaster - Earthquake in Ahmedabad / Bhuj - Gujarat 0n 26th January, 01. It was our republic day. In the morning we experienced great tremors about 7.9 rector scale for 100 seconds, which resulted into great disaster. By the grace of God, I am safe here with all my family members - my wife, two children and my mother. It will take little time for us to settle down. We do not know what will be after impact on our socio-economic relations. Official figures are not reality but death mark will reach more than 1,25,000 and affected people will be more than 1million. Government agencies reported the loss of 25000 crores of rupees. That is also very low figure. Government agencies were not ready for such disaster management and they were very slow and without any management skills for relief work. NGOs worked better than government. Even distribution of foreign aids like blankets, medicines etc, all till today is not satisfactory. Personally, I have very minimum damage. My residence is affected and the pillars of the apartment must be repaired with more technical parameters. We are not living in the house still. Repairing is now started and may be it will take 40 - 50 days. Clinic building is quite safe and having no damages. From yesterday now I have started to attend clinic. Only 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. But still after 6 in the afternoon, the entire building - shop owners rush to the home. Earlier I was working from 9 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. Nobody wants to be in building after sunset. This is panic. Very fearful situation. We were just relaxed after 10 days of the disaster and started to live in the apartment for night day and again on 8th February, 01 we felt great tremors of earthquake (rector scale 5.3 ) and everybody rush out of the houses and remain out side for whole night. Many people are sleeping in the car on the road for last 15 days. Millions of people are affected by this natural tragedy, rich and poor has no difference. Many medical doctors teams from different countries are working here. We are thankful to the people of this world. From every corner of the world, people are sending donations, other help and moral support. Lives, houses, business all may be destroyed by this earthquake, but light of humanity in the hearts of human being is unaffected. Thank you. Dr. Prerak Shah

Painful or Irregular Menstrual Cycles: Recently I am getting number of questions from our friends related to painful menstruation or irregular menstruation. This is a common for stress related person. If you are having over stressed, under tension or psychological disturbances or pressure, or changes in surroundings / atmosphere may cause disturbances in your regular menstruation cycles. Many of the time, our friends are not providing complete details of their menses. As an Ayurveda doctors, we need details such as;
In Ayurvedic view, general menses problems are due to aggravation of Vata and Pitta doshas. For general menstruation problems, mental relaxation is most important which Yoga or meditation can achieve. For diet changes - avoid sour, hot, spicy, oily food. Take more milk, butter, fruits (not sour), asparagus, rose petals, fennel seeds and vegetables.

type and get organized Knowing therefore, the characteristic features of various body types such as: i) Vatik, ii) Paittik, iii) Shlaishmik, iv) Vata-Paittik, v) Vata-Shlaishmik, vi) Pitta -Shlaishmik or vii) Prakrita / Sama (balanced) is of great importance. It is also essential to see how the body types get manifest on our physical built, body organs, physiological functions, intelligence & alertness, indulgence in activities, response to stimuli, mental attitude, likes or dislikes, etc. This would assist us in evaluating ourselves and behave rationally for the upkeep of good health. Similarly, evaluation of our own Manasa Prakriti, i.e., psycho-spiritual profile is made by identifying the predominance of Psychic factors viz., Tama, Raja and Sattwa (Id, ego and superego). This is especially helpful in knowing the individual's vulnerability to psychosomatic diseases. As the physical forces Kapha, Pitta and Vata are inter-connected with our psyche, these psychic forces do have a link with physical health too, hence a need to understand them.
