Problem
of the month: (through e-mail counseling)
Question : What is the recommended procedure for Gandush (mouth rinse or cleansing)? How long should the oil be kept in the mouth? Is there anything to add to the oil? I understand medicinal camphor is recommended sometimes. Another suggestion was using a decoction of triphala. How is this prepared? Answer
: Nice to have e-mail from an Ayurveda friend. here are my suggestions; 1. Gandush are gargle with liquid full of mouth, which can not be moved inside the oral cavity. One which you can move inside the mouth is called 'Kawal'. 2. You can keep it until you can hold. In the beginning it maybe for only for seconds, by the practice the time may be extended for a minute or two. 3.
I usually suggest to add pinch of rock salt in little warm sesame oil. Any
medicated oil (accordingto dosha) can be used for Gandush. Some times
decoctions, fresh jiuces, milk, ghee also can be used for Gandush. Best
wishes, Prerak

Interesting to know: Anupana
Interesting
to know : Anupana
(After meal liquid intake) An ideal anupana is that which is not incompatible with the food taken in virtue of its properties. Anupana helps in the proper movement of food inside the body, liquification of the food for the easy digestion. But if one is over hydrated (or suffering from polyuria) too much drinking of liquids should be avoided. In summers butter-milk can be used as anupana. Cold water is ideal after meals containing yoghurt/curd. Warm water can be taken after consuming starchy/fermented food . Honey water is good to make stout persons lean. Sura (fermented drinks) is good to make lean persons stout. Milk is best suited for those who have become weak due to some disease or therapy, fasting or due to excessive physical activities. It is even reccomended for emaciated, aged and children. Stomach
