May our hearts and actions reflect the magic and love that is Christmas.

From Charak Samhita :
The qualities of the five elements
The five proto-elements are the ether, air, fire, water and earth. Sound,
touch, color, taste, and smell respectively are the characteristics of the
five proto-elements.

Of these elements the first has only one quality; while in each succeeding
one there is a corresponding increase of qualities. Thus in each succeeding
element, there are found the preceding elements and there qualities too.
( Charak Samhita, Sarir Sthana, Chapter 1, Shloka - 27, 28 )

ARTICLE

MASTER YOUR HEALTH ON YOUR OWN

According to Ayurveda, a human being is a living epitome of the Universe. The interplay of the cosmic forces such as moon, sun and wind   controlling the phenomenon of life on earth (by their bestowing, usurping and distributory qualities) is claimed to behave   similarly within our body by activating their  biological representatives Kapha, Pitta and Vata and assist them in carrying out - i)anabolic,  ii) bio-convertive and iii) carrier functions respectively. The  above mentioned biological substances Kapha, Pitta and Vata which are ubiquitous in nature and are actually representing the functional entity groups of potent catalytic factors are capable of  holding  the health in their balanced state and while acting in harmony. But they are  also responsible in supporting the pathology of the disease processes of almost all the systems when they are abused, neglected or thrown out of gear and hence, all the major treatises of Ayurveda give strong emphasis on the observance of the laws of Swasthavritta i.e., the code for a healthy conduct.

Factors that are -  i) instrumental for turbulence or vitiation of the vital forces as well as, (ii) the phases that lead to the progression of disease process, need an elaborate discussion. Moreover, the guidelines, by following which one can manage to bring back the doshic balance and check the progress of disease process   (into a full blown disease) also need be highlighted in consideration of the Ayurvedic principles of 'Swasthasya Swasthya Rakshanam', i.e., preserving the health of those who are hale and hearty  in order to lay the foundation of a disease free society.
